To the Editor:
What?! Your front-page headline actually says “Donald Trump Hints That He May Fund Race Himself”? “Hints”? “May”? This is “news”, even though he has said exactly the same thing a dozen times before, always without consequence? This is a headline in the venerable New York Times that, since 1851, has dedicated itself to giving us “All The News That’s Fit To Print”?
Alas, this headline in the New York Times may represent the final nail in the coffin of the Fourth Estate. Now, it would seem, no mass medium anywhere can resist the impulse to print anything—absolutely anything—that tumbles from the rancid mouth of Donald Trump. Total surrender. So sad. No, beyond sad. Tragic, really.
Never have we been more in need of the Times’ legendary commitment to real news, real facts, and real truth-telling. Please resume ASAP.
