To the Editor of the New York Times:
Surely you must remember Michael Bloomberg, who not only made a legitimate fortune in your fair city but served as its distinguished and well-respected Mayor for 12 years? I’ve attached a picture, just to jog your memory. Judging from your coverage of the DNC last night, it seems you failed to notice that he took the podium and convinced any fair-minded hearer that would-be Emperor Trump not only had no clothes but no brains, no integrity, and no business running for President of the United States.
Your failure to give prominence to Bloomberg’s authentically independent and incomparably expert condemnation of Trump was a disservice, since he is one of the few truly impartial voices in this hyper-partisan campaign. He has observed Trump in action at point-blank range, and the disgust he expressed is more than casual distaste–it reflects genuine condemnation of Trump’s character and modus operandus. We need more coverage of such well-informed perspective, and less of your fixation on any possible unresolved aspects of “unity” in either party.
